Asin to romance superstar Shahrukh Khan!

The south sensation will now get an opportunity to romance superstar Shahrukh Khan in Sajid Nadiawala’s ‘2 States’ to be directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. The story is based on Chetan Bhagat’s book.

A source said, "Asin is already a part of ‘Housefull 2’ and hence she often featured in the discussions about the casting for ‘2 States’. Sajid and Asin share a comfortable relationship and the actress was excited to be a part of the film, which not only features Shah Rukh but also will be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. She is currently out of town but is expected to sign the papers as soon as she lands back in city.”

The source further added, “Vidya Balan too was being considered for the role after Priyanka Chopra, since the female lead in the film is South Indian. Asin fits the bill for the same reason.”

Asin is one such lucky actress who got to romance all the three Khans, Aamir Kahn in ‘Ghajini’, Salman Khan in ‘London Dreams’ and ‘Ready’ and finally Shahrukh Khan in ‘2 States’.

Probably her nightmare began with London Dreams opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn which flopped at the BO. Recently, Asin was dropped from Vipul Shah’s KhaKha KhaKha opposite John Abraham because according to the filmmakers, her character was similar to the one she played in Ghajini, but insiders said that it was John who didn’t want to romance her, though the actor denied the rumours. Now the actress reportedly has lost out on Anurag Basu’s film Silence starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra and that too because she’s not tall enough!

The role had initially gone to Katrina Kaif, who according to gossip mongers had turned it down because of Priyanka’s powerful presence in the film. This led to Anurag hunting for a new face for which he also held auditions but couldn’t find the face he was looking for. It’s then that the producers asked him to take Asin, but the director refused to do so because he’s looking for a girl who is more than 5.8 feet tall.

He doesn’t think she’ll fit the role,” said a source. “Now egos are bruised. Anurag, who wants to have his way, has gone ahead and is busy directing shows for a Bengali channel because of which Silence has been kept on hold.”

Though everyone’s maintaining ‘silence’, it’s ultimately Asin who’s lost out on the opportunity of working with the current heartthrob Ranbir. Fortunately for her, Salman, who had taken a liking for her during the making of London Dreams is doing Anees Bazmee’s Ready with her.

It is said that Deepika was first approached to act with Salman Khan in the film. But Anees signed Asin as Deepika hinted that she had no dates available.

However, sources said that Deepika was keen on working with Anees and Salman, and was about to sign the dotted line. This led to the strain in their friendship.

Has Asin replaced Deepika Padukone in writer director Anees Bazmi’s next film with Salman Khan? Bollywood is abuzz that Asin has at last signed her third film by replacing Deepika in the film.

The grapevine has it that Salman called up the producers T Series and director Bazmee to replace Deepika with Asin. Salman and Asin are said to have become close during the making of their London Dreams, which however bombed.

 

A source also said that Salman is trying to woo back Asin to Bollywood as she is all set to go back to Kollywood and act opposite Vijay in the Tamil remake of Siddique’s Malayalam Bodyguard from April 1.

After her topsy-turvy Bollywood career - a monster hit with Ghajini and a monster flop with London Dreams - South star Asin is taking her time with choosing her next project. "I'm taking up select films which excite me, which is why I do not have a number of releases one after another,” she explained, “I have some films in hand now but none of them have gone on the floors yet so I cannot reveal anything about them."

Rumours are spreading, however. Will her next project be with Ghajini director AR Murugadoss opposite Surya, thus reuniting the old team - or possibly a movie opposite Vijay, or Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much delayed Chenab Gandhi, or could it even be a Malayalam movie? Time will tell.

Asin was recently in town to launch the 55th annual Filmfare Awards which take place on Feb 27nd. She talked about how much the awards meant to her. "I received my first encouragement, the Filmfare Award, for my first Telugu film; and last year, I received a similar applause for my first Hindi film - Ghajini - too," she said, "Naturally, the appreciation given to me by the Filmfare Awards is not only very valuable, it is very special too." Asin has won Filmfare awards in three different languages. This year, 111 movies will be competing in 37 categories.

At the launch, Asin was probed about her ideal man. “I don't have a check list for my dream guy,” she confided, “But I definitely think integrity of character is a very important quality. I am not a person who values physical appearance more than how the person is at heart."

Asin declines to promote vegetarianism

"Ghajini" fame actress Asin Thottumkal has turned down animal welfare group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) request to promote vegetarianism. She said she is a hardcore non-vegetarian and, therefore, it would be unfair to accept the offer.

"After I entered the film industry, I restricted my non-veg diet to fish and chicken. I can't, however, remain without non-veg food even for a single day. Therefore, it won't be proper for me to involve myself in the campaign against non-vegetarian food," said Asin.

From time to time, PETA ropes in celebrities and puts them in the forefront of its campaign to popularise vegetarian food habits. Aishwarya Rai and Manisha Koirala are among the few Bollywood actors who have lent their support to the campaign.

Salman to gift a dog to Asin?

Salman Khan has come to know that Asin desires to have a pet dog and he plans to gift her one. He may not have gifted her a flat (as rumours alleged) but Salman may soon gift Asin something sweeter - a dog. Reports say that during the shooting of London Dreams with Salman and Ajay Devgan , Asin told them about how she’s always wanted to have a dog. The actress reportedly told her two co-stars that since childhood she wanted to keep a dog as pet but her father kept delaying it, after making the promise.


Her father apparently believes keeping a dog in house is “unhealthy” and he hoped Asin would understand this when she grew up. Today, when she is grown up, Asin still hasn’t gotten over her love for dogs. According to sources on the sets of ‘London Dreams’, hearing Asin’s story made Salman decide to gift a dog to her. Salman’s love for dogs is well known, and it’s no secret how saddened he was when one of his favourite pets died recently. However, it remains to be seen whether Salman gifts Asin a cute puppy or a ferocious canine.

Salman Khan starts missing Asin

During the shoot of his forthcoming release London Dreams, Salman Khan wanted to stay at his favourite hotel in Central London. This despite the fact that the rest of the cast and crew were put up at another hotel in the city. Initially Khan was happier staying at his preferred hotel - away from the crew members. But according to a source from the sets, a few days later he started missing them all. On hearing stories from Asin and Ajay Devgan about all the fun post pack up, Khan started feeling left out and was missing the camaraderie. So within a week Khan went to Vipul Shah and asked him to move him back to the crew hotel with the entire gang. We wonder with Asin in the crew if Salman was actually missing anybody else?

Well in yesterday’s poll we noticed that many visitors preferred Genelia over Asin, ‘coz Asin is too old, but according to Asin’s family she is just 23 years old! Asin’s dad Joseph Thottumkal saiys, “She is born on October 26, 1985.” and the same info is available on Wikipedia. Asin made her debut at the age of 15 in 2001 in Malyali flick Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka and 8 years later she bounds to be 23 . Well I hope this will clear doubts about Asin’s age.

Asin and Genelia in an Orange War!

The battle has begun between two former south Indian actresses Asin and Genelia now ruling the roost in Bollywood for India’s biggest orange soft drink market- South India. Asin has been endorsing Mirinda for the last three years, while Genelia has become Fanta brand ambassador from this year. Tamilnadu alone accounts for 25 percent of the total orange soft drink market in the country. The rivalry between PepsiCo and Coca Cola India for the South Orange market has been bitter, and much juice has flowed in the campaign. Last three years the market leader in the orange category was clearly PepsiCo India’s Mirinda, thanks to Asin, while Simran and later Trisha gave stiff competition with Coca Cola India’s Fanta.


This summer, Fanta has decided to take Mirinda head on by signing up Genelia, the new youth icon in Bollywood who has a huge fan base in south. Says a leading Chennai based brand consultant: “ Asin and Genelia are big in Bollywood today after Ghajini and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na respectively. They have already become national brand ambassadors for their respective brands. But the winner in the orange war will be decided by who wins in Tamilnadu, the biggest market for orange soft drink in the country.”


On Friday (April 17) Genelia, flew to Chennai for a big summer 2009 Fanta launch in Tamilnadu. Genelia was in her elements and said, “It feels great to be associated with Brand Fanta. It has been my favorite sparkling drink for a long time. I am quite thrilled about the launch of Fanta Apple. It’s a great product and I am confident that its refreshing taste would find a special appeal amongst all my fans.” Two weeks back Asin was in Coimbatore for summer season launch party of Mirinda. Asin’s two new television commercials with the theme ’Mirinda Kannu, Konjam Galatta Pannu’ have become super hits with the audiences. The buzz in the soft drink market in Tamilnadu is that this summer it is going to be a tough battle between the two orange drinks, and larger than life stars play an important role in the sales.

Asin’s double dhamaka

Southern babe Asin made quite a good impact, thanks to Aamir Khan’s ‘Ghajini’. Now she has the Vipul Shah biggie ‘London Dreams’ coming up. But the Southern beauty’s fans wouldn’t have to wait for that film’s release. They can catch a glimpse of her in the Hindi version of the Tamil hit ‘Dasavatharam’ where she plays a double role. Unlike ‘Ghajini’, Asin has more screen time as plays a double role - one of a woman from the 12th century and another from the 21st and is opposite the versatile Kamal Hassan.


The movie took more than three years to complete due to hurdles and was made on a budget of Rs. 60 crores, a staggering amount for any Tamil movie till date. The Tamil ‘Dasavathram’ (Ten Avatars) was released last year in the month of June and was a hit down south. Haasan plays ten different roles in the film and is a research scientist and an ex-CIA officer who are after a biological weapon lost in USA that can cause massive destruction. The age difference notwithstanding, Kamal Hassan and Asin have really looked good together in the film, the dubbed version of which releases soon. Actually Vidya Balan’s loss had turned out to be Asin’s gain. She was considered for the role, but finally Asin got hold of it. Mallika Sherawat plays the second lead in the film and the film also has a much-hyped song composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Asin of course is visible more in the film and if she continues this way, she could very well overshadow many other actresses in B-Town, not just Mallika and Vidya.

This Southern belle is definitely having a ball. After working with Aamir Khan in Ghajini Salman Khan in yet-to-be-released London Dreams , Asin is set to work with Shahrukh Khan . Grapevine is abuzz that Asin is being considered for a role opposite SRK in a Yashraj film. However, the original choice for the role was Katrina Kaif , but Shahrukh, who wants to keep safe distance from Salman and co., wasn’t too interested in working with Katrina. So Katrina is reportedly out and Asin is in. Saying yes to the project wasn’t easy for Asin.


She had already allotted the dates to a Priyadarshan flick with none other than Akshay Kumar . And since Yashraj Films demanded dates around the same time, Asin was in a fix. She had to choose between doing a film with Akki or Yashraj. But luck favoured Asin. Akshay asked Priyadarshan to postpone his film because of unavailability of dates. So as Priyan’s film was shifted to 2010, Asin had free dates for the Yashraj film. So now, as things stand, Asin is most likely doing the YR Film with SRK. But interestingly, there’s a buzz that she might be replaced by Katrina in Priyan’s film with Akki. Well, the two ladies are all square now.

Asin in trouble with police?

Seems like a former assistant of Bollywood Actress Asin has allegedly gone missing and his mother blamed Asin for the incident. Muthukmaraswamy (23), who was employed with Asin in Chennai and left along with her to Mumbai more than a year ago when the actress moved to the metro to shoot for the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Ghajini’, has been missing for the past ten days, his mother Sudalaivadivu told PTI here today. Though Swamy had initially expressed joy working with Asin, he later complained of being verbally abused by the actress, the manager’s mother alleged. She said her son could not be contacted on his mobile phone and Asin’s father Joseph told her that Swamy had already quit his job and “joined an anti-social gang.” Police officials who are investigating the case said that Asin’s father had informed a local police station in Mumbai, as the rules mandate there, that Swamy had quit on Januray 21 and the salary amount had been settled.
