‘Slumdog’ kid Rubina Ali ’s father wanted to become a millionaire by selling his daughter, reports a British news website after it carried a sting operation. According to the News of The World, in a desperate bid to escape from a life of slum and poverty, Rafiq Qureshi, the father of Rubina Ali put her up for adoption in lieu of 2,00,000 pounds.However, when asked, Qureshi denied any such kind of a report and said, “These reports are not true. I went to the hotel to shoot an ad film. I would never sell my daughter. I met a man who spoke in Arabic. I didn’t understand him.” Rafiq said that he was purportedly offered such a deal by the undercover journalists who posed as an affluent Dubai based family.
Rafiq said that he told the phony sheikh, "I have to consider what’s best for me, my family and Rubina’s future."According to the website, Rafiq blamed Hollywood bosses for pushing him to put his daughter up for sale.Rafiq’s brother Mohiuddin also seconded the former and said, "The child is special now. This is not an ordinary child. This is an Oscar child!" Rafiq, a Mumbai slum dweller is desperate to cash his daughter’s enormous success courtesy ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ by apparently selling Rubina to the highest offers.News of The World said that they came to know about Rafiq’s plan by a former neighbour, who told them that Rubina’s father was desperate to sell his daughter to the highest bidder in his effort to escape the life of Bandra slum and he was in touch with a Middle East family for the same. Nine-year-old Rubina shot to fame by playing the young Latika in Danny Boyle’s film, which picked up eight Oscars besides earning millions at the box office. The film depicts the heartwarming story of a Mumbai slum dweller, who escapes the Mumbai slums by winning USD 20 million in the Indian version of ’Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’.
